Weekend round up..

Well done to Dave Millington who completed the Edge Hill half marathon in 01:50:38 knocking another 5 seconds off his PB.

"Great picturesque course (if a bit on the hilly side) great support from the locals in the surrounding lovely lady even gave me an Ice Pop around mile 11 which was just heaven!!!
Gave up any ideas on a PB on mile 10, was a bit behind where I needed to be and knew there was a 'monster' of a hill to come, so just relaxed and enjoyed it. I will note this for future runs as I somehow managed to catch up my lost time and drag myself up the final hill quick enough to sneak in a new PB!! Get in.."

Malcolm Atherton ran the Brampton spire 10 mile race on Sunday.

"I've never competed in a 10 race before so was looking forward to the new distance my only mistake not looking at the course route or gradients.
Set off at 10:30 nice steady gradient for the first mile THEN climb, climb, climb until mile 5, the lactic acid was building and my legs were burning. Fortunately where there's an up, there's a down. Mile 5 to 8 downhill through some lovely villages and scenery. Mile 8 steady gradient again through to half a mile to go then flattens out to the finish line.

Very good well organised race, commemorative bottle of beer (nice touch if Rich is reading) and decent cotton tee shirt.

Finished in 1:16.29 in a respectable 49th place, kept the ilkeston flag flying.

Summer Handicap Results : 11 PBs inc. 2 course Records Smashed!

A fine night greeted our return to the summer off-road course and with the exception of one muddy section conditions proved good. After all the track work recently there was predictably a lot of PB’s - excellent work.
Welcome to new member Carrie Chan.

Well done to Kerry, Carrie, John and Tom Iliffe who despite not having run this course had plenty of recent 5k results to suggest they set very good times.

Brilliant runs by Natalie and Colin saw Natalie break her ladies course record and Colin break Michael Earley’s absolute course record.

Many thanks to Michael, Julie and James for setting out the course and time keeping.

See: Club Resuts page

So what did all this do to the championship table..?

Well done to all those who completed last night session I hope you aren't to sore this morning. Finishing times and a breakdown of the lap-splits are available [here], apologies if I have any of the data incorrect. Top tips for point scoring.. - Get racing, There are plenty of park run 5ks around for those 5k PBs, also a handy 25 points for introducing a new member and even if you cant run an event in the championship but are free just turning up and shouting out or taking pictures earns you the points..

Current Championship table now includes all the new runners with names spelt correct and in the right lists, Sorry..

Winter Handicap.

Near perfect conditions saw some incredible performances and an unbelievable 15 PB’s and to top it all Natalie Lebeter shattered the long standing ladies course record and if you look Colin was only 2 seconds of the mens!

Welcome to debut runners Kristian, Emily, Remy and Chris – well done to Chris for being first home on the night.

It was a particularly difficult night for the timekeepers with such close racing – THANKYOU Caroline and Michael.

Updated all the info re the handicap on the club results page and the championship table is looking great after all those PBs....

Sinfin 10k

I've noticed the Sinfin 10k championship race is now open for entry.

Diary Dates

Please take note of the upcoming summer BDL races - Free to enter for club members - More info on the diary page..

A busy week.

Well done to everyone at the national cross country event on Saturday. I have a couple of write ups to add which will go onto the site properly in the week and an update to the championship tables. In the mean time here's a XC write up from Simon

Training this week.

On Tuesday we are doing an out and back course up to Hardy Barn - (shorter American Adventure) map with meeting points here

Alternative : Tony's off road running school has another illuminated lesson planned for Tuesday evening 25th Feb. Will be 11km moreorless - suitable for road shoes but trail shoes would be better perhaps! 8-9mins/mile. Might get wet feet if it rains between now and then. Strelley/Swingate/Awsworth on mostly good tracks. Bring a headtorch. Cheeky beer afterwards perhaps.

Thursday - Track. remember your £1.50s.

Emails emails and more emails.

Sorry about all the emails but we are busy preparing for a number of upcoming events including organising the Double or Quits race, Darren Holloway award night, BDL Stute run and sorting out the club training kit.

As a reminder

Remember to nominate your chosen charity for the double or quit race asap.
Remember to complete the kit order survey.

Training this week

Tuesday - steady 6 mile loop with various diferent options on the way for runners to take short cuts etc. Some of this is on road so wear something you can be seen in please.

Thursday - No track this week - Hill Training session instead..

New Section on the web site

Kit reviews.. Michael has written a short peice on his GPS running watch.. If anyone has any other let us know and we will put them on.

All change please... New club championship tables produced and the BDL race results database updated.

Well done to Carol for coming first in her category on Sunday, picking up a 25 point bonus along with Dougie who was 3rd in his category.

Please check your emails for the results of yesterday’s XC at the incredibly muddy Holmebrook Park. Despite the weather’s best efforts to drowned us in mud we had a fantastic turnout of 22 runners and despite 2 DNF’s we were only beaten on turnout by the host club – well done to all!!!!

As a result of the strong turnout we had our best finish at a league XC in a long, long time – 7th overall (ladies 8th/men 7th).

Let’s now build on this when the Summer League kicks off in April

Thanks also to Jackie, Julie and Katherine for turning out to support

I will update the championships later in the week and post on here.

Tuesday - There are a couple of options

1) Tuesday lamp posts.. This is a 6 mile course leaving club running along the bypass - for those of you that fancy a go at this session but not the distance you are welcome to meet us by the roundabout to the entrance to Tescos car park around 7:05/7:10 this will then make a 4 mile loop. Let us know if you are doing this shorter option so we can wait for you..

2) Tony has one of his legendary off road / hills / fartlek session runs planned.. Prompt from club at 7pm wet and muddy - xc shoes..

Its track time again.. Please remember your £1.50's.. These sessions are great for all... 7pm Rutland sports park.

BDL Race on Sunday

The Booths Cross Country hosted by North Derbyshire will be  on February 9th at Holmebrook Valley park S41 8XP, same place as last year , plenty of car parking ,showers and changing facilities are available. The race is 2 laps, slightly different from last year and at the moment very wet.

Last nights handicap race

Despite the unusual south easterly wind direction, the relentless attainment of PB’s continues, well done to all of you. Welcome to new runner Katherine Earley who had lots of ‘pleasant’ things to say about the whole experience. Unfortunately Natalie Lebeter’s attempt on the ladies course record was postponed due to work commitments but Yulia Ravenhill stepped in with an incredible PB that was an agonising one second off Becky Durrant’s record – stand by for fireworks next month when hopefully Yulia and Nat will go head to head.

Thanks, as always, to Michael Andrew for timekeeping.

Results : Last Night : Season : Championship updated

It's a busy week this week. Please make a note.

Tuesday - Club Handicap - with all those track sessions we are expecting some good results. Previous Results and PBs here

Thursday - Its track time - Remember your £1.50s. The coaches have promised a slightly easier session as we have the handicap on Tuesday and the BDL race on Sunday.

Sunday - It's that last BDL Cross Country at Holmebrook Valley Park Chesterfield. Starts 11:00 Please check your club emails for more details as the week goes on. If anyone needs a lift please let us know asap.

This weeks training plan is definitely new member friendly - If you are thinking of trying us out please pop along. All we ask is you are over 18 and can run a couple of miles.

If you haven't paid your annual subs yet please bring them this week. As an incentive only paid up members can score points in the attendance championship from February.

Training this week

Tuesday night - With the track session on Thursday we need a steady session. There are a couple of options but we think that a short 2 mile loop with a 4 mile extension - something like this will enable new members to enjoy a couple of miles with the group then head back to club.

Thursday is Track night. I believe we are doing 4 X 1000mtrs with 3 minutes rest - Should be a good night and suitable for all. If this changes I will put a post out on facebook and twitter.

Track Costs

This Thursday is the last free track session. During January the club has funded the track sessions to encourage you all to try. We believe these have been well received and are putting together plans for these to continue. The track however costs £1.50 per runner so we will be asking users to pay this per session from February. More details to follow..

Well done Dave Millington on his PB in his Park Run 5k this weekend. A huge 25 bonus points awarded puts him on top of the mens championship whilst Gabrielle keeps her place at the top of the ladies. For full details see the new championship page or click here for the tables.

This week we are sorry to hear that club member Clive is laid up in hospital with his leg in plaster after being knocked off his scooter – fingers crossed from everyone at club for a quick recovery.

The Weekend

A popular weekend for runs. Many members took advantage of our members only facebook group to arrange runs at various times over the weekend. It was, as some of you described, motivational to see and read about everyone going out.. Check out the members only group here if you are not a member click the join group links.

And relax.. After a tough few weeks of training and races we have a week off.. Well not quite but back to normal training at least.

Tuesday this week is the perfect week to come along and try running with a club. We have lots of runners of all abilities and will be able to find you a group to suit your ability.

Thursday - No track this week so will be a steady run - TBA.

Richard has just gone into the lead on the championship after the recruitment of new member Thomas. For the latest tables see [here].

At the end of the month we will publish main data tables so those that are interested can see how the points have accumulated.

Its been a busy week with the club handicap on Tuesday track session on Thursday and a XC on Sunday. Well done if you made it through.

Well done to Paul Coe and Gabrielle who are leading the performance championship after the first round.

Well done Dave and Gabrielle who are leading in this championship. A special mention too for Lora who after only a few weeks at the club is second in the table after her first XC run on Sunday.

See the championship page for more info and tables.

Darren Holloway Memorial Race 2013 report from Carol and Rob

Phil Walters of Long Eaton ran in Ilkeston colours at the Buttermere Daz Holloway Memorial Race

To Ilkeston RC

Thanks for the kind offer of the Il’son vest to run around Buttermere on Saturday. The race was fantastic and a great tribute to Darren in a place he loved. There's stuff on the Long Eaton forum under 'Fell and Off Road' about the run. I'm on there as Lata de Riego ..... don't ask !!

It was a pleasure to run in Ilkeston colours and I got loads of encouragement from the marshals en route. Special thanks must go to Carol, Rob and Ozzie who were fantastically encouraging and made the day super special. The pint Rob had waiting at the Kirkstile Inn was nectar. Great run by Jonathan too - Hope he's got the fell bug.

Thanks again. See you at the Barley Mow after the Carsington Booths race.

Race HQ is Darley Park Cricket Club see link for location and parking details, personally I would park in the City Road option and then cross the footbridge and walk up through the park.

To sort lifts, please be at the Rutland for a 6pm departure. If anyone could offer Rach and I a lift there, it would be much appreciated.

On the night,  I will actually have my mobile switched on

09/06/2013 : Late Race News

Message from Rob and Carol

Rob and I are planning on doing a race next weekend , its an existing race called ‘Darren’s Race’ that we had suggested as a suitable event for our members to compete in, rather than the official memorial race which is a hard core fell race called Buttermere Horseshoe on 29th June, as it is not as hardcore as the official memorial race for Darren.

We are going up to the lakes the following week and will be supporting Jonathan Pitts and Phil from Long Eaton who will be doing the memorial race.  On the sunday Amanda and family will be scattering Darren's ashes in an area that he loved.

This last weekend Rob, Mick Andrew and myself competed as a relay team in Man V Horse as "friends of Darren Holloway".

See you all at Denby - anyone who is interested could have a word with Rob
